Doing a lot of work with groups with very complex needs has taught us that most activities are accessible in some way. We don’t offer activities specifically for special needs instead we will look at individuals with SEN and adapt activities to suit them.

Charlotte's Tandems
Our borrowers are both children and adults. Tandems are a fun and safe way to get out and about as friends, a couple, family or group. They are available for hire for a couple of months at a time. We now have about nearly a hundred tandems and about a dozen tag-alongs all over the UK. They are with Borrowers for the vast majority of the time but looked after by the Volunteer Helpers listed below. Disability Adventure Weekends offer - Pioneer Centre
Through four adventure activities during the course of each weekend we’ll provide you with opportunities to push yourself beyond what you may have thought possible! For example, you can have a go at wheelchair abseiling on our purpose built and specially designed tower. Our fully qualified and experienced instructors will provide you with memories you’ll never forget.

Disability Snowsport UK is a people-centred organisation with a unique sense of purpose: that anyone regardless of their disability can take part in and enjoy the thrill of Snowsports. We have applied exceptional know-how and adaptability for over 30 years to enable those with a disability to experience the joy of skiing alongside the able-bodied. We provide exciting and life enhancing activities for individuals or groups who require adaptive equipment and/or special instruction and support.

ican2 was created as part of Telford & Wrekin Council's short breaks pathfinder project ran from April 2008 to March 2011.
The ican2 Short Breaks programme is about providing activities for children and young people living in Telford and Wrekin with a disability or additional need - children who have, or would experience, difficulty attending groups, clubs or facilities without support. Short Breaks covers a wide range of provision from universal (open to all without the need for any assessment or specialist support) through to specialist (for example hospices and overnight residential care).
Children and young people are eligible for short breaks if they have a physical or learning disability, a hearing or visual impairment. It includes children with autism and Asperger’s Syndrome and children who may have challenging behaviour as a result of their learning disability. It also includes children who have complex needs and who may have palliative, life limiting or a life- threatening conditions.
Inclusive swimming lessons
All four pool sites within Telford & Wrekin (Wellington, Abraham Darby, Oakengates and Newport Pool) provide separate Junior and adult disability learn to swim sessions and these have been developed to bridge the gap between 1-1 lessons and mainstream classes. Fully qualified ASA swimming teachers at these sites deliver the disability lessons with enhanced knowledge of disabilities and cater for all abilities from beginner and upward, the emphasis is on learning through fun based sessions following the ASA Alpha Awards with a goal of working towards accessing mainstream swimming classes.
For more information contact one of the Swim4Life co-ordinators below based on your preferred site. The co-ordinators will then be able to determine the best way forward with the disability sessions.

Concessionary Bus Pass
The Telford and Wrekin Concessionary Travel Scheme offers a number of different travel opportunities for residents who are age eligible, or people with disabilities who qualify under certain criteria.
The scheme includes the new English Concessionary Travel Pass, which allows free travel on local bus services throughout England, between 9.30am and 11pm Monday to Friday and at any time on Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays.

The Disabled Persons Railcard is for people with a disability that makes travelling by train difficult.

Disability Access Fund (DAF)
From April 2017 the Disability Access Fund (DAF) is a new funding for early years providers to support children with disabilities or special educational needs. It aids access to early years places by supporting providers in making reasonable adjustments to their settings
Education Trusts
There are three education trusts in Shropshire (all references to Shropshire include Telford and Wrekin).
The trusts are there to help students who either live or study in Shropshire. Also, the trusts may consider applications from schools and further education institutions that might submit applications for projects that fulfil the aims of the trusts.

Personal Independence Payments (DLA post 16yrs)
PIP helps towards some of the extra costs arising from a long term ill-health condition or disability and is based on how a person’s condition affects them, not the condition they have. It is not means-tested or subject to tax and it is payable to people who are both in and out of work.

Carer’s Allowance is £61.35 a week to help you look after someone with substantial caring needs. You don’t have to be related to, or live with, the person you care for. You must be 16 or over and spend at least 35 hours a week caring for them.

Buttle UK
Buttle UK is named after Frank Buttle, a remarkable man whose hard work and personal sacrifice helped to establish our Grant Programmes, which have been helping children and young people in need across the UK since 1953. We do this by providing practical solutions that give children a fighting chance in life. Direct support is based on individual need, either to overcome immediate crisis or ensure the best possible chance of a successful education.
A grant could be for a bed so a child no longer has to share with a sibling, and has a better night's sleep to help them concentrate in class.

Child Brain Injury Trust
The Child Brain Injury Trust offers support to children with Acquired Brain Injury and their families.
The Trust has two grant programmes:
- Give a Child a Chance Grant is a small grants programme (£100 max per child) to enable the child with Acquired Brain Injury and their siblings to be involved in social activities.
- The Mary Radnoti-Dwyer Education Assessment Grant of up to £350 to help towards the cost of SEN assessments for professional reports

Festival Spirit
Festival Spirit is a charity providing the full festival experience to young people who would not normally be able to attend and enjoy due to life-limiting illness or disability, our guests.
We are passionate about helping people who never thought they could attend a festival safe in the knowledge that they will have the facilities, support and back up necessary for their condition.
Our accommodation on site is an amazing specially adapted marquee with hard flooring, heating and electricity and close to disabled facilities such as showers and toilets. We provide 'buddies' to assist guests and their carers to get around the festival site and to make the most of the weekend event, see bands and attend all the other exciting workshops and activities on offer.

Lennox Children's Cancer Fund
Lennox provides practical, financial and emotional assistance to children with cancer and their families. Their care grants can help towards the extra costs of having a sick child such as travel expenses, household items, childcare and specialist equipment.
Lennox also provides respite breaks at their two holiday homes – one in the New Forest and the other on Mersea Island, off the Essex coast. These holidays are free of charge.
Both the grants and respite breaks are available if your child is under 18 years and diagnosed with Leukaemia or cancer in the last 12 months.

Over The Wall
Over The Wall is a national UK children’s charity and a member of the international SeriousFun Children’s Network. Remap is a national charity working through local groups of skilled volunteers to help disabled people achieve independence and a better quality of life.
We do this by designing and tailor making equipment for their individual needs. This helps them carry out essential daily tasks without having to ask for assistance, or take part in leisure occupations or sports that would otherwise be impossible for them.

SENSE
We know that being a parent of a child who is deafblind or has other complex disabilities can be challenging.
Sense began more than sixty years ago with a conversation between two mums. Mums who both had babies born deafblind as a result of rubella. They felt isolated - and worried that their children would be isolated and unable to enjoy meaningful, fulfilled lives. Together with other families, they proved this does not have to be the case.
With the right support, we believe it's possible for everyone to make sense of their world and the world around them. To communicate, connect and take part in life, no matter what.

Shropshire Cerebral Palsy Society
The Shropshire CP Society provides grants for any individual with cerebral palsy that lives in the county of Shropshire. There is no set limit on a grant as all requests will be considered on its own merits. Any request not covered by statutory funding will be considered. They have recently funded sports wheelchairs, holidays, Hippo therapy, shoes, carpets, beds and hospital transport costs. The organisation meets monthly with the exception of August and December.
To apply you will need to provide proof of Cerebral Palsy, reside in Shropshire, a copy of DLA (Disability Living Allowance) notice (if applicable), copy of item and an invoice. Any grants provided will be paid directly to the supplier not to individuals.

Telford and Wrekin Council for Voluntary Service (CVS)
Telford and Wrekin Council for Voluntary Service (CVS) a local charity dedicated to social development and individual well-being. It delivers its services to individuals and community members who live and work in Telford & Wrekin, Shropshire. Our current programmes support unpaid family carers, children and young people and their families who have a special education need, people over the age of 16 who are living with autism. Our programmes provide information, advice and support to ensure people living across Telford are supported to live in their communities.

Working together we support everyone who works with children and young people in England to support their speech, language and communication.
Sport England
Sport England operates a wide range of funds to benefit not for profit organisations and sports projects.
It is keen to encourage young disabled adults and disabled individuals participation in sport and will fund extra equipment and improvements to existing facilities such as improved access.
The funding streams are varied and range from £300 to millions of pounds.

My Max Card
The Max Card is a discount card for foster families and families of children with additional needs. Families simply show their Max Card upon entry to a venue in order to obtain free or discounted admission.
The scheme is designed to help these families save money on great days out at castles, zoos, bowling alleys and more.

Rodor Housing and Support LTD
Rodor Housing and Support is a leaving care organization. We are totally sector focussed with many years experience within children and young people service provision. We provide accommodation and individually tailored, young person centred solo supported placement, supported living, semi-independent living, offending behaviour programmes for young people placed on ISSP, YRO’s or Referral orders and community interventions to young people aged 16-21 years old.

Talking Point gives parents/carers and practitioners the information they need to help children develop their speech, language and communication skills. If a child has difficulty with speaking, they may need help, or they may struggle in nursery or school. With the right help, they can develop the skills they need.

Telford Young Carers is brilliant. They have a youth club, adventure days, seaside trips and much more. They have workers that are there to listen to any problems and give advice.

YoungSibs is for children and young people who have a brother or sister who is disabled, has special educational needs or a serious long-term condition. It is for siblings in the UK aged 6 to 17.

The PDA Society provides advice and information for parents and professionals about Pathological Demand Avoidance Syndrome. This is a guide for GP’s, nurses, Health Visitors, Social Workers and other primary care workers who are likely to first come into contact with children on the autism spectrum and need to be alert to early signs and parental concerns. ASDs are spectrum conditions so some overlap within these areas and diagnoses are inevitable.

The principal aim of the The Educational Psychology Service (EPS) is to promote the well-being, personal development and education of children and young people by applying psychology.
Education Trusts
There are three education trusts in Shropshire (all references to Shropshire include Telford and Wrekin).
The trusts are there to help students who either live or study in Shropshire. Also, the trusts may consider applications from schools and further education institutions that might submit applications for projects that fulfil the aims of the trusts.
Future Focus
(formally known as Connexions) is a free support service for children from 13-19 years (up to 25 years if you have additional needs). We provide impartial information, advice and guidance on careers and future planning. We also help you when things get in the way of your learning or future plans.

IDL Literacy - Dyslexia Intervention
IDL Literacy is a cloud based intervention software, specifically designed to help improve the reading and spelling ability of those with dyslexia and dyslexic tendencies. Many schools have also reported the benefit of using IDL with those who: are autistic, have Meares-Irlen Syndrome, are EAL learners or struggling with reading and spelling in general. The programme consists of over 1,000 lessons, which provide structured, sequential learning with a multi-sensory approach.
Over 1,400 schools use IDL nationally, providing positive feedback on how IDL is helping pupils to improve their literacy skills. Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS)
Previously known as Parent Partnership Service (PPS). The IASS provides confidential and impartial information along with advice and support around Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. They also offer health and social care support. The service will help to increase confidence for people to participate in decisions, empowering parents and young people to take an active role in their child’s education.
Learning and Behaviour Advisory teams
The Learning and Behaviour Advisory Teams work with Children and young people aged 4 to 18, teaching assistants and school support workers, teachers, and senior leadership staff.
We offer learning assessments and advice, access arrangements, observations, advice and support for children and young people with SEND; challenging behaviours and/or emotional needs. Sensory Inclusion Service (SIS)
SIS supports young people with hearing and seeing difficulties. It also includes support and help for their families. The goal is to provide a wide range of assistance to ensure children have a good quality of life and are not excluded from the community.
The Seeds School

Community Equipment Services provides equipment that plays a vital role in helping disabled people of all ages to develop their full potential and to maintain their health and independence. It facilitates hospital discharge with the provision of equipment e.g. beds, mattress systems, allowing people to be in a place of their choice.
Learning Space
Our range is full of fun and inspiring resources to meet the needs and interests of ALL children and of all abilities. We are an educational toy and resource supplier providing everything needed to create an innovative learning environment. From products to help a child who has Autism, an interest in science or needs help with timetables. As well as providing a wide range of learning and specialised resources we also install sensory equipment, soft play, outdoor equipment and full nursery/school setups.
Newlifeable
Every day, Newlife nurses hear of children who are desperate for essential equipment that will make a real difference to their lives. Equipment that can enable a child to go to school, sleep at night free of pain, speak to their parents for the first time or visit grandparents. Newlife is committed to making a difference through its Equipment Grant and Loan Service, but even so thousands of disabled children and families continue to go without.
With a UK wide chronic shortage of such equipment, we have responded by creating a suite of equipment that has been donated by local statutory services. These items may not be needed in one local area but could help thousands of children who do need the equipment across the UK. Each item has been clinically cleaned, refurbished and certified in line with Medical Health Regulatory Authority (MHRA) guidelines and is now readily available, free of charge to help enable a disabled child.

Remap is a national charity working through local groups of skilled volunteers to help disabled people achieve independence and a better quality of life.
We do this by designing and tailor making equipment for their individual needs. This helps them carry out essential daily tasks without having to ask for assistance, or take part in leisure occupations or sports that would otherwise be impossible for them.

Child Development Centre
The Child Development Centres (CDCs) provide information and advice for parents and carers and developmental assessment and intervention for young children. The services are currently provided for children who are less than 5 years old and before they begin going to school. Families may be referred to the CDC when their child has been given a diagnosis which is likely to affect their long term development or when it is felt that their child’s development is not progressing as expected.
Children's Community Physiotherapy
The Children's Community Physiotherapy team provides physiotherapy assessment, treatment and rehabilitation during/following; illness, surgery, disease, disability or injury. Children's Physiotherapy have a specific interest and expertise in working with children and young people who present with a wide range of conditions. The Physiotherapists work in a variety of different settings such as homes, clinics, Child Development Centres and schools (mainstream and special)
Designated Clinical Officer
Each Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) must provide a designated medical officer (DMO) or designated clinical officer (DCO). The DCO plays a key part in implementing the SEND reforms and in supporting joined up working between health services and local authorities.
Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service (Bee U)
In consultation with children and young people, the service has been named Bee U. Bee U consists of 4 organisations (The Children’s Society, Kooth, Healios and Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust) who deliver emotional health and wellbeing services across Shropshire and Telford & Wrekin.

Hope House
Hope House Children's Hospices - Hope House at Oswestry and Tŷ Gobaith at Conwy - provide care and support to life-limited children, young people and their families from Shropshire, Cheshire, North and Mid Wales.
A range of services is offered, including respite and end-of-life care at the hospices and/or within the family home, and support such as counselling, advocacy and the promotion of children, young people's and carers' rights.
Children, young people and family members are welcomed into a friendly, homely environment, with the child or young person at the centre. The support offered includes physical, psychological and spiritual care from a team including experienced doctors, nurses and other care professionals. Support is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

School Nurses support health and wellbeing programmes for all children and young people 5-19 years of age in schools and the wider community having smoothly taken over from health visitors, who provide services from pregnancy to the first five years of life. School nurses are qualified nurses with various additional qualifications.
School nurses have a specialist public health qualification and/or extensive experience of working with children, young people and their families.

Holidays with Help was formed by a group of British Red Cross Society members with over thirty years of organising holidays for large groups of people with disabilities.
We provide respite care breaks for people with disabilities and their carers with support from trained and experienced helpers. Medical and nursing personnel are also on site to offer guidance where necessary, should it be needed. However it should be noted that we cannot provide 24 hour nursing care.
Bookings are welcome from large groups and individuals allowing single people, couples or family groups to enjoy a break, safe in the knowledge that care and support systems are in place to support them all.

The National Holiday Fund for Sick and Disabled Children
Provides support for the parents or carers of severely sick or disabled children by offering them a two week respite whilst their children are cared for by us.

Parents or carers are not required to pay any of the costs associated with the trip. Funding is provided by charitable donations.

Seagull Trust Cruises
Founded in 1978, the Seagull Trust Cruises charity offers free cruises on Scotland’s canals for people with special needs. From small beginnings, Seagull Trust Cruises hosted 27,003 passengers on 2,823 cruises in 2015.
A completely voluntary charity, cruises run from branches at Ratho near Edinburgh, Falkirk, Kirkintilloch and Highland at Inverness. In addition, a purpose-built holiday boat based at Falkirk is available.
Speyside Trust Badaguish Centre
Speyside Trust, Badaguish Centre is a small independent charity helping children and adults with learning difficulties and other special needs - they love the challenge of the outdoors too! The Trust badly needs funds to further develop its respite care activity holidays and work experience/vocational training programmes.
The Children’s Adventure Farm Trust
The Children's Adventure Farm Trust is based at the beautiful Booth Bank Farm, a 17th Century farmhouse set in the heart of the Cheshire countryside. We provide a variety of programmes for terminally ill, disabled and disadvantaged children from all over the North West .The needs of the children visiting The Adventure Farm range from complex and severe physical and learning disabilities, sensory impairments and terminal illnesses through to children who act as Carers for a family member, those dealing with bereavement and children who have been victims of abuse. Each child is treated as an individual with their own strengths, likes and dislikes, disability is never seen as a barrier to participation. We welcome children from all social and ethnic groups.

PODS empower parents and work together with the following agencies acting as parents voices in shaping services relating to health, education, social care, early years, local authority bodies and government agencies, short breaks, respite care, voluntary organisations, universal services (for example libraries, sports centres), Town Park, leisure services.
We sit on a number of steering groups and working groups within the Local Authority.
Face 2 Face scheme
Face 2 Face is a network of trained parent volunteers who support other parents of children with special needs at the time of diagnosis or during challenging times related to their child’s disability. Every Face 2 Face befriends someone whose own child has special needs.
Home-Start Telford & Wrekin
Home-Start Telford & Wrekin supports parents with at least one child under the age of 5 who are dealing with issues such as:
- isolation
- sickness
- disability
- mental health
- domestic abuse
- twins/triplets
- difficult relationships
We can help parents to feel that the 'impossible' is possible!
Independent Support
Independent Support (IS) is a government funded programme to provide additional support to parent and young people during the implementation of the Children and Families Act 2014.
Information hub
The Information Hub is a drop in service based at the Stepping Stones Centre, Malinslee, available to all families of disabled children and young people across Telford and Wrekin. This is a free service and helps families to access information regarding all aspects of disabilities for children and young people.
Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS)
Previously known as Parent Partnership service (PPS) provides free, confidential and impartial information, advice and support around Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including health and social care. This will increase confidence to participate in decisions, empowering parents and young people to take an active role in their / their child’s education.
Julia Butler Coaching

I am a professional coach (member of the Association for Coaching) who is also the parent of a child with additional needs. I offer an initial no-obligation, no-cost discovery session.

Shropshire Parent Support Group
Does your child have coordination problems that you can’t explain? Concerned about who to talk to?
Shropshire Parent Support Group are here to help with Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and DCD.
A small group of parents meet on the First Friday of every month for a relaxed chat to share information and experiences. They often have professionals visiting to give advice on a number of topics.

Swan UK
SWAN UK is a project run by Genetic Alliance UK offering support and information to parents of children with undiagnosed genetic conditions. Funded by the National Lottery through the Big Lottery Fund the project has 3 aims:

Our weight management programme will support you with the skills and knowledge to make a real difference to your child’s health. A free 10 week programme for four to seven year old children who are above a healthy weight for their age and height. The Healthy Juniors programme is a fun, free family programme designed to help families make long term lifestyle changes.

Afasic
Afasic was founded in 1968 as a parent-led organisation to help children and young people with speech and language impairments and their families. We provide information and training for parents – and professionals – and produce a range of publications. Members meet in local groups in many areas of the UK.
Autism at Home
Autism at Home takes a holistic approach to Autism. Autism requires an open approach which considers all aspects of each individual. Autism at Home specialises in play therapy which then incorporates other beneficial therapies.
Childhood Stroke Support Service
The Stroke Association offers a Childhood Stroke Support Service – providing information, advice, support and networking events to families affected by stroke in childhood.

Coverage Care Services
Coverage Care has been providing nursing, residential and respite care services for older people and those living with dementia or a disability throughout Shropshire and Telford and Wrekin for the past 18 years.
All of our homes are very different but the high standard of care is the same throughout them all.
Coverage Care has 12 homes throughout Shropshire offering care predominantly for older people requiring nursing, residential, respite or various forms of re-ablement care, all for those living with frailty or dementia. We have two additional services: one which provides respite support for people with a learning disability; and another providing an extra care service where you can live in your own flat and receive care as you require it.
Dyspraxia Foundation
The Dyspraxia Foundation seeks every opportunity to increase understanding of Dyspraxia, particularly among professionals in health and education and encourages its local groups to do the same. It continues to encourage the smaller local groups to thrive and develop their own ideas and to distribute information and fundraise for themselves.

A Direct Payment is money that we give you to arrange and buy the care or services that you need. You can buy services to meet your needs which can include:

Emotional Health and Wellbeing Service
South Staffordshire and Shropshire NHS Foundation Trust are pleased to announce that from 1st May 2017 we will be providing a new mental health support service for young people across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.
The new service will be available to young people, up to the age of 25, and will offer help and support to those who are struggling with their mental health and wellbeing.
Elklan
Elklan was established in 1999 by two experienced speech and language therapists Liz Elks and Henrietta McLachlan in response to a demand for training to be delivered by speech and language therapists to education staff to enable them to be more effective in their support of children with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN).

Griffin Occupational Therapy
GriffinOT offers affordable and easily accessible online occupational therapy solutions for schools and parents. This includes an online Sensory Processing Disorder training course and from mid-2019 will include online motor skill development programmes. All GriffinOT programmes offer you more than a list of activities/strategies to try. Our primary aim is to help school staff and parents to understand why they’re doing these activities or using specific strategies. Most importantly, we also discuss how to implement all activities/strategies safely and correctly.
If you want to learn more about Sensory Processing Disorder, how it affects children and how to help, our online course ‘Sensory Processing: What’s the Fuss?’ could be a good solution for you. This is available for teachers and parents in an individual study format. There is also an inset format, which would be suitable for whole school training.

Independent Travel Training
Independent Travel Training is for young people with a learning disability requiring the skills necessary to travel independently using public bus services in and around the borough of Telford.
Information, Advice and Support Services Network (IASS Network)
The Information, Advice and Support Services Network (IASS Network) provide training and support to local Information Advice and Support (IAS) Services across England. The IASS Network was previously known as the National Parent Partnership Network (NPPN), who undertook a similar role with local Parent Partnership Services. The IASS Network is funded to provide this support by the Department for Education (DfE).
What does the IASS Network do?
- Provides a range of information, advice and support to IAS Services.
- Promotes the development and standards of IAS Services.
- Provides training to IAS Services on relevant subjects including the law on SEN and disability, health and social care (with IPSEA).
- Promotes service impartiality and arrangements that ensure IAS Services are operating at arm’s length from their local authority.
- Provides a national picture of the work of IAS Services through the annual ‘Benchmarking’ report.
- Promotes dialogue and collaboration between IAS Services and other partners.
- Engages strategically with DfE on key issues arising for IAS Services.
- Supports an e-forum for all IAS Services through which relevant information can be sent and discussed.
- Facilitates the SEN Information Group - a network of organisations that provide direct advice and support to families of children with SEND.
- Works with the Independent Support Programme to ensure parents and children are receiving high quality IAS.

Future Focus

Landau Turn Around
We aim to provide quality supported training for people with learning disabilities, low educational attainment and those who face real barriers when it comes to learning. We support you to acquire and develop vocational skills which will enhance your employment prospects with the aim of progressing into sustainable employment.
Preparing for Adulthood
A program of work is now underway to explore these proposals, working with SEND green paper pathfinders. The Preparing for Adulthood programme will also provide knowledge and support to all local authorities and their partners, including families and young people, so they can ensure young people with SEN and disabilities achieve paid work, independent living, good health and community inclusion as they move into adulthood.
